Food trucks operating along Atlanta’s Global Grub Alley corridor have reported nearly $200,000 in combined sales since FIFA World Cup match days began, according to CBS News Atlanta. More than 20 trucks have been working the pedestrian-only stretch of Walton Street near Centennial Olympic Park, one block from the official FIFA Fan Festival and along the walking route to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The corridor, organized by the Food Truck Association of Georgia and Showcase Atlanta, runs daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on each of Atlanta’s eight confirmed World Cup match days plus the day before, spanning a quarter-mile between Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Broad Street. Darren Williams, owner of the New Orleans-style truck Just Loaf N’ and a Food Truck Association of Georgia board member, said shrimp po’boys have been his top seller — “about 60 of these a day.” Association director Lamar Stewart framed the setup as intentional: “These events should happen with our small businesses, not around them.”

Why it matters: Sixteen days of guaranteed foot traffic funneled through a quarter-mile chokepoint is about as favorable a revenue environment as mobile vendors ever see, and it’s a direct product of deliberate city planning rather than luck. Spread across 20-plus trucks, nearly $200,000 in sales works out to real money per operator for a temporary setup with none of the fixed overhead — lease, buildout, property tax — a brick-and-mortar restaurant would carry to capture the same World Cup crowds. It’s the clearest possible argument for why host cities increasingly treat food truck corridors as infrastructure, not an afterthought. https://youtu.be/jxq1QuGIoLA?si=g71KsssSzTzd1hvE
